Is Michael Repacholi the world’s best Whirling Dervish?

"Repacholi encourages parents to get their children into using mobile devices as soon as possible.

What the hell is going on? First we have the Russian National Committee on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (RNCNIRP) issuing a warning about the potential dangers to children from their use of wireless devices.http://www.emfacts.com/2012/06/wi-fi-re ... n-rncnirp/ To quote in part: Electromagnetic radiation from Wi-Fi creates an additional burden for the child brain, whose body is in a state of development and the formation of mental activity. During this period, children are most susceptible to adverse environmental factors.

Also see: http://emfacts.us2.list-manage1.com/tra ... 07705a3ece

Then we have a joint paper by lead author Repacholi (who fails to disclose his monumental conflict of interest) with Chairman of the RNCNIRP, Yury G. Grigoriev as a co-author, among others. http://emfacts.us2.list-manage.com/trac ... 07705a3ece

This paper does no justice to the RNCNIRP and has raised questions about what Yuri Grigoriev was thinking when he agreed to sup with the devil.

Now we have Repacholi at a GSMA industry conference stating that parents should get their children to use wireless devices so that the kids are not left behind! This is welcome news for the wireless industry, especially when coming from an expert with no conflicts of interest.

There’s enough spin going on here to topple a troop of Whirling Dervishes….

I think all this calls for the RNCNIRP to strongly respond to Repacholi’s rantings. Not to do so, in my opinion, makes it look like the Russians have been well and truly suckered by Mike.

From Joel Moskowitz:

Repacholi, did an interview with the GSMA on June 3, 2012. Here are two quotes from the 7 minute tape interview:

“We even had pediatricians who looked at the development of the embryo through to the development of the young child to find out if there were any effects of RF fields that could influence the development or behavior or mental capacity, and we couldn’t find anything above the age of two. The development process concluded to the point that RF fields wouldn’t cause any adverse consequences after that age.”

Is he admitting that there is evidence of harm below that age? He even uses some scare tactics to encourage parents to give their children cell phones at a young age:

“Children should be encouraged to use technology otherwise they will be left (eh) while other children are using the technology, and the jobs are going to go to children who knew the technology very well at a young age. Certainly, from the health viewpoint there is no concern that we’ve seen this far that parents need to be worried about children’s use of mobile phones.”"

Abstract

An extremely low-frequency magnetic field (ELF-MF) is generated by power lines and household electrical devices. Many studies have suggested an association between chronic ELF-MF exposure and anxiety and/or depression. The mechanism of these effects is assumed to be a stress response induced by ELF-MF exposure. However, this mechanism remains controversial. In the present study, we investigated whether chronic ELF-MF exposure (intensity, 3 mT; total exposure, 200 h) affected emotional behavior and corticosterone synthesis in mice. ELF-MF-treated mice showed a significant increase in total immobility time in a forced swim test and showed latency to enter the light box in a light-dark transition test, compared with sham-treated (control) mice. Corticosterone secretion was significantly high in the ELF-MF-exposed mice; however, no changes were observed in the amount of the adrenocorticotropic hormone and the expression of genes related to stress response. Quantification of the mRNA levels of adrenal corticosteroid synthesis enzymes revealed a significant reduction in Cyp17a1 mRNA in the ELF-MF-exposed mice. Our findings suggest the possibility that high intensity and chronic exposure to ELF-MF induces an increase in corticosterone secretion, along with depression- and/or anxiety-like behavior, without enhancement of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Abstract

Increasing use of mobile phones creates growing concern regarding harmful effects of radiofrequency non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation (NIER) on human tissues located close to the ear where phones are commonly held for long periods of time. We studied 20 subjects in the 'mobile phone group' who had a mean duration of mobile phone use of 12.5 years (range 8-15) and a mean time use of 29.6 hours per month (range 8-100). Deaf individuals served as controls. We compared salivary outcomes (secretion, oxidative damage indices, flow rate and composition) between mobile phone users and non-users. We report significant increase in all salivary oxidative stress indices studied in mobile phone users. Salivary flow, total protein, albumin and amylase activity were decreased in mobile phone users. These observations lead to the hypothesis that the use of mobile phones may cause oxidative stress and modify salivary function.

Could mobiles affect some more than others?

Beitrag von Handymania » 28. August 2012 08:04

Mobile phones affect the brainwaves of some individuals more than others, say researchers, who are calling for a rethink about how we study the effects of the pervasive technology.

Professor Rodney Croft, of the University of Wollongong, and colleagues, report their findings in the journal Bioelectromagnetics.

Possible action mechanism of the electromagnetic fields

Possible action mechanism of the electromagnetic fields in the liver cancer development: A mathematical proposal

Currently it is known that electromagnetic field exposure can induce biological changes, although the precise effects and action mechanism of the interaction between the electromagnetic field and biological systems are not well understood. In this work we propose a possible action mechanism, concerning the effect that the extremely low frequency electromagnetic field exposure has on the early stage of liver cancer development. The model is developed studying the phenomena called oxidative stress that it appears after it is applied a carcinogenic agent used to induce hepatic cancer chemically in an experimental animal model. This physical-chemical process involves the movement of magnetic field dependent free charged particles, called free radicals. We will consider the use of the radical pairs theory as a framework, in which we will describe the spin density operator evolution by implementing the stochastic Liouville equation with hyperfine interaction. This describes how the selectivity of the interaction between spin states of the free radicals with the applied electromagnetic field, influences the development of pre-neoplastic lesions in the liver.

Electromagnetic pollution

Im Kontext mMn "off topic":
1. "...red herring" = Ablenkungsmanöver. In der Überschrift.
2. "....some scientists, politicans and certainly large parts of the public are fascinated by horror scenarios such as this one." In "Conclusions".

zu 1. Frage: Von was wird abgelenkt?
